AI Images for Etsy and Print-on-Demand โ€” The Practical Playbook

The rules first

  • Etsy allows AI-generated listings if you disclose them in the listing.
  • Amazon KDP allows AI-generated interiors on their KDP program.
  • Redbubble, Printful, Printify โ€” allowed, no disclosure required.
  • Zazzle โ€” allowed with disclosure.

Selling AI art without disclosing on platforms that require it is the fast track to a shop suspension.

Resolution requirements

Print needs 300 DPI at the print size:

  • T-shirt front (12"ร—16") โ†’ 3600 ร— 4800 px
  • Mug wrap (9"ร—3.75") โ†’ 2700 ร— 1125 px
  • 8"ร—10" wall art โ†’ 2400 ร— 3000 px
  • 24"ร—36" poster โ†’ 7200 ร— 10800 px

Generate at your native SDXL bucket (1024 or 1152), then upscale to the target size. See Upscaling AI Images.

Style traps

Too generic โ€” the market is saturated with "cottagecore mushroom" and "boho affirmations." Pick a niche.

Too trendy โ€” a style that's hot on Etsy in June won't sell in December. Test small before scaling.

Text errors โ€” SDXL still gets typography wrong. Add text in Photoshop or Illustrator after generation, or use Flux for text-heavy designs.

The batch strategy

Generate 30 concepts. Pick the top 5. Publish 5 listings. Watch the analytics. Double down on the winner. Repeat weekly.

This works because the marketplace filter is unforgiving โ€” 90 % of listings never sell. You need volume + measurement, not perfectionism.

Commercial rights

Every paid Imagoat plan includes commercial rights. Free tier is watermarked. If you're selling on any marketplace, use a paid plan โ€” not because Imagoat forces you to, but because a watermark will get your listing rejected.
